About Us

Our Mission

During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Port Chester area resident Jim Reddoch had a vision to share what he loved doing most with his community: Playing music. As a musician and a teacher, Jim founded SoundWaves in order to help teach and inspire Port Chester’s next generation of young musicians who might not be able to afford lessons. Jim’s enthusiasm for the Beatles - and rock in general from The Byrds to Radiohead - has helped SoundWaves’ curriculum grow into what it is today. We listen and cater to each students’ passion, whether it is for Rock, Classical, or Pop music. But of course, if our students are unsure of what to pursue, we always recommend a Beatles tune!

We currently offer lessons in piano, guitar, voice, drums, bass, and even ukulele.

We created a curriculum that follows 3 F's: Fundamentals (learn proper technique), Form (music theory on why a song is put together the way it is), and Fun (quickly learn how to play familiar songs and amaze yourself and your family)!

Now, as of 2022, we are a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization and we are continuing to grow. Since SoundWaves' founding in 2020, we've welcomed many new students and instructors into our family. Over 80 children have taken lessons from us. We are constantly on a mission to grow our program and inspire as many budding musicians as possible. We strive to cultivate an active SoundWaves community of musicians and music-lovers while also aiming to be a part of the Port Chester community at large. Our team members are not only dedicated to teaching music, but to organizing instrument drives, family events, and community outreach.

We thank Port Chester's Carver Center for an incredible partnership, without which we would not have been able to start. In August 2022 we acquired our own studio in downtown Port Chester, but Carver Center will always be our primary home. We hope that SoundWaves will not only provide music lessons to the next generation, but also to the many generations that will follow.

Our Team

Our instructors are from the Westchester and New York area, each with diverse music education backgrounds. While some of us are professional music instructors, others are simply musicians who are passionate about teaching and sharing their music!
